Happy New Year to Chinese or even mixed Chinese people in and out China~
In Thailand, many people are mixed Thai and Chinese so we can commonly experience Chinese traditions and worship everywhere. Today is Chinese New Year, lots of families worship gods and their dead ancestors, so do my family. I don’t know what the original Chinese New Year is like in mainland China but here Thailand, apart from the worship, young people get quite a large amount of money from their parents and relatives. However, those youngsters who already get a job don’t get money, in contrast, they are supposed to give money to their parents and relatives! SO THIS IS MY FIRST YEAR THAT I DIDN’T GET ANY MONEY WHILE ALL OF MY SIBLINGS DID!!! So sad….
According to the title of my post today, yes it’s true that most of the Thais celebrate New Year three times every year! One is Chinese celebration which I mentioned above. Another two is international New Year which is on January 1st and Thai New Year on April 13th.
April 13th is considered to be Thai ex-New Year which was changed to be on January 1st, however, the Thais still celebrate it every year. Moreover, the day also features Songkran Festival which actually takes three days (13-15 April). Besides the craze of water celebration on Songkran, people go back to their hometown in order to visit their parents and pour water on the hands of them and revered elders and ask for blessing. It’s such a warm and lovely New Year!
