bangkok skytrain

In order to avoid serious traffic jams during rush hours in Bangkok especially in the area I work at, I need to use skytrain which is really packed in the early morning and in the evening after work yet it takes me only 15-20 mins. It’s better than being stuck in the traffic for hours though!

I have always experienced annoying things on the skytrain since I started relying on it many years ago. I reckon the similar things commonly happen in other countries as well.

The first thing that always gets me frustrated is when someone possesses a pole on the skytrain while others are likely to fall over the floor when the train is moving as they have nothing to hold. Don’t know if that person does it in purpose or he/she just doesn’t realise it’s a kind of selfishness.

The second thing I hate is when someone jumps the queue to enter the train! Bangkok skytrain is very busy and it’s like a mess when people are trying to catch the train as a few mins can cause them late at work or any appointments. People are being in queue and when the doors slid open, he/she comes from nowhere and suddenly gets into the train, people at the end of the queue are left outside the train, keep waiting for the next train to come!

Thirdly, when sitting guys are pretending they don’t see the old or pregnant women standing quite close to them. Guys will try to look on the screen, unpleasant views outside or wherever they won’t have an eye contact with the age and the pregnant women. It should be that last thing in the world all the guys do but……!!!

The fourth thing is noisy people! Of course they can talk on the train but they should be krengjai other passengers by not talking that loudly! Most of them are teenagers, they love showing off in public, I can understand that though as I’ve passed that period of time in my life :)

The last thing is people who seem to be afraid they won’t have a chance to get into the train if they don’t try to run through the crowd that is going out of the train. That’s really annoying as it’s hard enough to struggle my way out to the door when they train is packed, and I usually get mad when someone try to struggle themselves into the train while I’m trying to get out! They won’t die if they have to wait for a few more seconds!

Before I got the first job in my life, I had never thought it would be difficult to work with foreigners. Now, I realize that I’m completely wrong. However, no one is to blame for this kind of problem and things bit by bit get better I am sure.

People from different corners of the world of course have different minds and thoughts. I’m a Thai while my boss is British who is quite open. Thai people have a unique way to express the feeling, ideas, needs etc. They are not really open as they ‘Krengjai’, the word I’ve never been able to translate to an English single term.

‘Krengjai’ is a common habit of the Thais who dare not speak out or do something since they care and are afraid it could hurt someone’s feeling. The habit makes the Thais sweet and super friendly human being and I can’t deny that I really love the way Thai people are. However, I’m now trying pretty hard not to stick with that kind of habit as I need to be more open so that I can happily work here :)

It’s been six months since the first day I started working, I’m really cool with everything - assignments, colleagues, my boss, the office and so on. I’m now learning not to Krengjai, but hope it won’t become my permanent habit!!

When summer comes, it’s obviously followed by a huge flock of tourists flowing to Thailand all the season long. Most of the tourists head to the southern or eastern where beaches are plentiful and beautiful and they take this chance to stay till Songkran festival comes.

Bangkok is not a delightful place at all in summer since the weather is extremely hot plus the air pollution and several unpleasant things in this crazy capital city. I’m never fond of Bangkok, only one good thing in Bangkok is convenience and fully-available facilities and transportation. The hotter the weather is, the worse Bangkok becomes L It seems as if we are happy living in this well-developed city, I’m not actually.

However, think in a bright way, at least Bangkok never suffers from drought, flood or coldness. I can find everything I want in Bangkok, of course I’m not talking about nature and good air for my lungs. I can’t see any stars at night, when I look to the sky, what I can see is a number of high buildings. That is such a dull view at night.

Bangkok is heaven on earth!  Says who!?!?!?!?!

She’s finally home, she finally made it! She finally graduated her tough six-year medical course and she’s gonna be a real doctor in less than three months’ time.

She’s only a year and 3 months older than me but she seems to be far more intelligent than I am. She has been a real smart kid since she was in high school, she was recognized as one of the coolest student in her year, every teacher knew her and a by-product was that they knew me too since I have the same last name as my sis’s! However, the teachers were usually surprised when they realized I was her younger sis thanks to our completely different look!

Not only graduates from the hardest faculty in Thailand, she is also the-first-class-honor student with the GPA 3.85!!!! HOW COULD SHE DO THAT!?!?!?! I was just a journalistic student but I haven’t done as great as her. Not so surprised why she’s always been my mommy’s favourite daughter :D

She will definitely earn lots of money when she starts working as a doctor, that’s good for her as it’s worth her hard effort in uni. You are cool, fantastic, magnificent, terrific, well can you give me 2,000baht every month? lolz

I’ve discovered Thailand’s hidden treasure on a trip to Chiang Rai! I went there to join my friend’s graduation ceremony with some of high school friends. I set off the trip on Friday evening and got back to Bangkok on Monday morning, it was such a short trip but tremendously memorable.

The ceremony was on Sunday so we started our journey right after we arrived in Chiang Rai at seven in the morning when the weather was really cold. We right away headed to Doi Tung, where the weather was colder, to visit splendid orchards and a house of HM the King’s mother who passed away many years ago.

I was stunned by those magnificent flowers and tress and if I were a butterfly, I wouldn’t fly anywhere else. The place was just like heaven on earth, slight fog along with multi color flowers and cool wind really froze us there and we knew that we could spend a whole day at such a fascinating place. We were stuck in every space where lots of my friends ran out of their camera batteries.

We realized that we couldn’t spend too much time at one place so we decided to leave Doi Tung and continued traveling to Mae Sai, the highest area of Thailand and the shared border of Thailand and Myanmar. There appeared a market full of wide range goods and stores owned by Burmese people and all the stuff were dirt cheap. Some sellers were real nuisance, they were trying to sell us faked cigarettes with their strange Thai accent. The market is well-known for its faked goods like DVD, name-brand purse, watches and lots more. We got back to the hotel with loads of stuff in our hands!

We got up early on Sunday in order to spend as much time as possible in Chiang Rai where I saw no sky sculpture but bright sky and massive mountains. My friend’s university was really different from every university I’ve seen in Bangkok, it was huge with a few big mountains as its background. I was jealous of the students as they got fresh and good air to breathe, and nice views to be seen from their classroom windows.

I will set off another journey before the Malaysia trip next week after Valentine’s Day! I was just confirmed today about going to Chiang Rai, the northern part of Thailand. Around eight of my high school friends and I are going there to join a friend’s graduation ceremony and of course it’d be a great chance to travel, although it’s only a few days trip.

We are planning to go there by a van on Friday night and we will arrive on Saturday morning. Since the grad ceremony will be on Sunday, we can start the trip throughout Saturday :D I’ve never been to Chiang Rai before but without doubt it must be a really beautiful place, I do hope the weather will be fine on the day we arrive as well.

See you Chiang Rai, I’m packed! Oh no,,,it’s too soon!

My elder sister arrived home yesterday for her so-called Master Degree interview. Honestly, I don’t really understand how her education system goes. She’s a medical student and it has taken her six years until she graduates, not to mention her further study after these six years. She is studying in Chiang Mai, a province in the north of Thailand, and she’s gonna graduate this late February! So coooool!

She’s only one year older than me and she’s a smart kid hehe. Being a medical student in Thailand is tough and that person is supposed to be patient, diligent and also put a lot of effort in the study. That’s one of the reasons why Thai medical students are really admired. If you can enroll to the faculty of Medicine, you are a genius! Therefore, my sister has become a pride to my parents and of course to her two younger sisters and brother.

She has been away from home for six years and I call at her sometime in Chiang Mai, now she’s coming back home and will probably stay here for three months at most before continuing her study in Ratchaburi, a province in the west, just in case if she passes the interview. In fact, it’s not a Master degree I guess, not so sure what it’s called, well forget it then! Anyway, what I’m quite sure is that every medicine student who is done the six-year course has to continue their study in order to specialize in any medical fields they are fond of and have a potential in.

She asked me to look for some tour packages from the internet for her. I think she has already started planning to travel and she has so many plans now; Vietnam, Cambodia, Japan, China and so on. Like she could do them all…!!! Anyway, welcome home a doctor-to-be  :D

Valentine’s Day is coming in two weeks’ time, it actually has nothing to do with me as most of you guys know. What do you think when talking about Valentine’s Day anyway? The first thing I come across is ‘a couple’ which reminds me so much of some plots in a number of Thai soap operas on how love is born between a leading actor and actress. The plots are somewhat commonly seen.

1. They accidentally bump into each other

The scene is like when they are walking from the opposite direction and they hit each other, a girl drops her stuff, a guy helps her collect the stuff and their hands are accidentally touched. The girl blushes, the guy falls for her at first sight. There’s always a clue for the guy to track the girl.

2. Being a secret admirer

The guy secretly admires the girl when he sees her for the first time but pretends she’s no good. Besides, he always teases at her, also tries to make her angry in order to get to talk and get close to her.

3. The girl plays hard to get

Although the guy is trying so hard to express how much he likes her, the girl still plays hard and acts like she doesn’t care about him at all. Even worse, she gives a shit about him but silently regrets when the guy is involved with the other girl.

4. Truly hate each other in the first place

They are nothing but a real enemy to each other for some reason at the beginning. They probably make fun of each other, scold, fight, or commit any bad things they can come up with. Despite their serious hatred, they fall for each other in the end.

5. The girl has a huge crush on the guy, the guy likes her too but they both play hard!

They might fall for each other since the first time they meet but pretend they do not care at all, so they both try to make the other gets jealous by goin out with another girl/guy.

It’s a good feeling when you can get along very well with someone and you know that doesn’t happen so often. I was one of lots of new grads who had been looking for a job after we graduated and many of my friends got a job before I did. Some of them are suffering due to their bad colleagues so I was a little bit scared before I started the first job in my life. However, I considered myself very lucky to have great colleagues.

All of them are around my age and we are good friends. I need to repeat that ALL of them are fantastic, however, I feel I click so well with one of them. I think I can get along well with any of them anyway.

She’s mixed Thai and Indian but she can’t really speak Thai and that’s not a big deal at all. She’s 28 years old if I’m not mistaken and she’s sooooooo nice! She’s sweet, lovely and caring, I sometimes feel she’s my sister who looks extremely different from me :D  She stays in an apartment on Sukhumvit Road and that’s pretty close to my house. She invited to me her house and of course I will go visiting her!!! She will start working from home tomorrow and I won’t get to see her that much, hope she’s happy being a freelance!

Do you guys like the new theme of my blog? I really like it, it’s so cool! Thank you P’Jock!

I actually asked Jock, one of my colleagues, to create a new theme for my blog long time ago since I was fed up with my old one. “I love butterflies and purple”, that was what I told him. He only nodded his head signaling he understood what I had asked for. Anyway, I had waited for over a month but I saw no change. I kept asking him when he would do it for me, he always said “I have already started it, the draft is in my head.” I finally gave up bothering him, but still teased him sometimes.

However, I got a big surprise today. One of my friends popped in my msn, flattering my blog. He said the new theme was really great and I was confused as I didn’t know what he was talking about. After a minute of confusion, I right away checked out my blog and I was quite sure someone had done something to it. Yes, I was right, the theme was changed and that’s cool! I really love it at first glance, I love everything, the color, the butterflies and my name written in a strange pattern.

Thanks again to Jock and I will always look forward to your creative ideas for my blog haha…

PS. I’m now looking forward to a theme which will be created by another of my colleague who has moved to a new place. Hope it will be as cool as this :D
